(Media/National) Thomas is up and running

Thomas is up and running
(Wainuiomata News, 21 April)

National candidate for Hutt South Rosemarie Thomas is gearing up for what she says will be a very interesting election year. She is vying for position of Hutt South MP against Labour incumbent Trevor Mallard and United Future (List) MP Murray Smith.

Ms Thomas has been involved with the National Party since 1969, but left for six years during 1994-2000 for a stint with the Christian party. She returned to National in 2002 more determined than ever to serve the people in the Hutt South electorate. This will be the second time Ms Thomas has run for the Hutt South seat, formerly known as the Eastern Hutt seat.

"My aim would be to serve the people of the Hutt and to see changes from central government that would benefit Wainuiomata. I think there's no doubt from talking to people that they want one standard of citizenship for all New Zealanders. People in Wainuiomata have been tired of seeing two standards of citizenship."

Ms Thomas says issues that she would address if she were appointed Hutt South MP would be finding more resources for Hutt City police, working to fix flooding problems around the area, and addressing the amount of school closures in Wainuiomata. "I think the amount of school closures in Wainuiomata is wrong. I have talked to people who are still very upset about the closures."

"I've been involved actively in the community, and I know what they want. I'm more than happy to help people. I would be an MP who would be committed to Hutt South"

Ms Thomas and her two opponents will be out and about around Hutt South campaigning hard in the lead up to the 2005 elections later this year.
